2020 Summer Season-Cancelled Due to COVID-19 Restrictions

It is with much regret, but out of an abundance of caution, that I must tell you that we are canceling the summer 2020 CVYRA season.  The board has been discussing this action for months now, and while we don’t want to lose the entire season we don’t feel that we would have enough time to organize and deploy even if Cumberland County would move into the Green status in mid-June.  We strive to run a quality program and we don’t want to rush a season.  We don’t know when we will be allowed back on the fields and when you combine that with other sports that are attempting to make moves, the lack of solid safety guidance on something so integral as “passing a ball between players and all other factors, this is the best move we feel we can make.   On a more pleasant note, if we return to a green status during July we will be attempting to reserve the fields for Thursday nights so that we can have pickup games of touch rugby, potentially including parents.  While this is not the season we all wanted, it may be the season we have and we hope it will keep everyone involved in rugby if we can make it happen. We could also use parental help and input into the 2021 season and volunteers for the same.     If you have paid registration, we will be refunding that shortly-likely by a credit to the card you used to pay initially-if not then by check mailed to the address you used to register.   I am sorry that this pandemic has caused us to take away yet another activity that we all love, but don’t let your kids lose hope that they have played their last year of rugby.  In order to try and make up for this year, and to make registration easier going forward, we are making all touch age brackets coed and extending the Premier age group ( the oldest group) to age 14 for both boys and girls which I hope will allow many of you who missed the season to get one more year of touch rugby in 2021.  The tackle group will extend to age 15 for boys and age 16 for girls.   Please stay in touch and help us to come back stronger in 2021. Until then (or hopefully Thursday nights in July) we miss you all and hope to see you next year.   Information will continue to be shared via our Facebook page and the CVYRA.org website and email as well.    If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me directly at [email protected].   Yours in Rugby, Frank Lentz, Commissioner and the CVYRA Board of Directors
